Opera and courtesans
Some of the stars of the most popular operas have been courtesans. Unfortunately, most of these heroines had a tragic end. Some were authentic femmes fatales, others, good women who made the mistake of falling in love with the wrong man. The most famous
:
La Traviata ("The Misguided ') by Giuseppe Verdi. Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave is based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas (son) "La Dame aux Camelias" .
Tais, by Jules Massenet. This hetaira, wonderfully beautiful, young hearts reigned over the Athenians
Manon, the quintessential bad girl (young, beautiful and capricious) is the protagonist of the novel by Abbe Prevost, L'Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut , which have made several operatic versions:
- Manon, Jules Massenet .
- Le Portrait de Manon , of Jules Massenet.
- Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini.
- Boulevard Solitude by Hans Werner Henze.
The opera is a "leap of faith", where the script says it was a beautiful young singers find usually mature "weight" but the important thing here is her voice.
